Instructions:
When submitting your video via the AFV/ABC website, the recommended specifications are 30 Frames Per Second with 720X486 Resolution. Acceptable formats are; WMV, MOV, AVI and MPG up to 300 MB. Once you have uploaded your clip, you will receive a Web Identification number, this is your confirmation that the clip has successfully uploaded. If you do not receive a Web Clip ID number, than please try your submission again. Please then download your Release Forms, write your Web Clip ID number on the first page of your Release Forms and on your mailing envelope, and mail them to us per the mailing instructions.
If you chose not to submit your video online, you may also submit either your original tape, or a copy of the funny or unusual clip on a separate tape. Please remember we are not responsible for lost, damaged, or misdirected tapes, so if your tape is very valuable to you, you should send us a copy. You may submit more than one funny clip on a single videocassette. Please include a brief description of the video clip and try to cue the cassette up to the funny part. Make sure you include your name, address, and phone number with the cassette. If you wish to have your tape returned, enclose a check or money order made out to Cara Communications Corporation in the amount of $3.00. Mailing information can be found under the link "Submit your Video" or under "Official Rules".
What happens when you receive my clip?
Once the AFV tape library receives your clip either by website submission or mail, it is assigned a unique identification number. The submitter's information is entered into our database and the clip is passed to the screening department. Once the clip is screened and is considered appropriate for further evaluation, we make a professional dub of the funny or unusual sections of the clip for our library. If you submitted your clip by mail, we will mail you the Releases Forms. If you submitted your clip on the AFV/ABC website, we ask that you download the Release Forms and mail them to us. (See official rules for more on evaluation and release forms). If you sent your clip in by mail, and sent in a $3.00 check or U.S. money order for return, we will do so. You can expect your tape to be returned within 3 months. If you did not ask for your tape to be returned, it will eventually be destroyed.
What is the status of my tape?
Your release forms and a copy of your clip will remain in our system indefinitely. When we build shows, we are constantly reviewing and reconsidering material that has come to us since day one. Therefore, there is a good chance your clip will find it's way into a show or up on the AFV/ ABC website, even if you haven't heard from us in a while.
Will you notify me if you decide to air my clip?
Once a clip has been chosen to appear in a show, we attempt to contact the owner and notify them of the airdate. We contact the owner the first time a clip is aired, but not for re-runs or subsequent airings. In order for us to contact you in a timely manner, please keep us up to date with your current address and phone number.
If you need to contact the AFV website staff with any questions or concerns regarding your clip, please call (310) 442-5600, ask for the Web Clearance Department; please refer to your Web ID # for identification.
Will you notify me if you decide to put my clip up on the AFV/ABC Website?
If your clip is selected to appear on the AFV/ABC website only and not air in a show, and we have received your Release Forms, you will not be contacted. You can look for your clip under "Most Recent Videos" to see if your clip has been chosen.
If you need to contact the AFV tape library for any reason, please refer to your tape identification number, written on your release forms, for easy reference.
